Prices At The Pump (Infographic)
Over the years we've seen the prices of petrol fluctuate quite dramatically. For the most part, the general public feel we're getting hard done by and that prices should be cheaper.
When looking at worldwide statistics for the price of petrol, it's hard not to agree that prices could be cheaper here in the UK. The UK currently sits joint 7th as the most expensive place to buy petrol.
The UK has not always been so dear however. Back in 1993, the UK was among the cheapest places in Europe to buy petrol. That crown has moved over to the eastern part of Europe.
Out of the top 10 most expensive places to buy petrol in the world, 8 of those reside in Europe.
Currently, Venezuela is the cheapest place to buy petrol. At an average of £0.01 a litre, petrol has become cheaper than water. Venezuela holds the world's largest oil and gas reserves which is obviously the main contributor towards its low petrol cost, but it's days of owning the title as the cheapest place for petrol are numbered.
There have been murmurs that the Venezuelan Government plan to increase the price of petrol across the country. They had previously tried to do this back in 1989, which subsequently caused riots and strikes.
With all this said, how does your country stack up to the rest of the world when comparing petrol prices?
