Meet Moptimus Prime, the new hospital robot cleaner
A robot is stalking the corridors of Hinchingbrooke Hospital. It has a map of the building, and it can sense when you're there. It can obliterate almost every germ it encounters. This is Moptimus Prime.
The robot cleaner was launched in January and is custom-made for the hospital in the shape of an ambulance.
Moptimus Prime was provided by Mitie, a company which provides cleaning services for Hinchingbrooke.
The robotic scrubber-dryer uses ultraviolet technology to eliminate 99.9 per cent of viruses and bacteria.
It uses a mapping system to guide it round the hospital completing pre-programmed cleaning duties, freeing up staff to focus on more complex tasks.
Moptimus Prime is fitted with a motion sensor, meaning that it is able to tell if anyone is in front of it and stop moving.
The robot was named via a Twitter poll, with the hospital's social media followers choosing between the names DUST-E, RoboMop, Clean-3P0 and Moptimus Prime.
But 'Moptimus Prime' won a landslide, winning 43 per cent of the vote. DUST-E and RoboMop got 20 per cent each, and Clean-3PO was least popular with just 17 per cent.
